What's Happening
The Bayar's are preparing a four course Ukranian Feast for up to 50 Guests. Activities will include Auction of 11 Framed Bead Art creations by Ilona Bayar. Additionally, several Mesquite Wood Creations will also be Auctioned.
Why the Fundraiser
Proceeds from the sale of the Dinner Tickets and Auctioned Art will go to assist the Bayar's in establishing their home in the Tucson Area as well as help fellow Ukrainians' still in war torn Ukraine. This fundraiser will hopefully help them to succeed in their goals.
Meet the Bayars
Amin and Ilona Bayar and their 2 children, Sophia and Alsu arrived in Los Angeles in September after leaving the bombings and their home in Kyev, Ukraine. Our friends, Paul and Katrina Merems, are hosting them in their home in Tucson. While in Kyev, the Bayars hosted many other families struggling to leave their homes and get to safety in other countries. In fact, their home is still used as a place of refuge for anyone who needs food or a place to sleep while traveling to safety.
If you cannot attend the fundraiser and wish to bid on any of the auction items, please contact Pam Bailey at baileypamrv7a@gmail.com, or call her at 520-909-2911. Tom Smith can also take your silent bids as well. This will be a silent auction with a minimum bid and a "Buy it Now!" option. Thank you for your consideration.

Artisan Contributors'
Ilona Bayar "I'm not a Princess"
Words on Ilona from her husband Amin: "Ilona has always had a passion for art and is very creative. Her beaded pictures which she worked on during Covid took her a month each, working 14 hours a day. She was feeling better doing something, so you can call her artwork her relaxation. In total, her 11 pieces of art took her a year to make; it was hard, but they are so amazing. Detailed work with small pieces, it even sounds cool, doesn’t it? She basically can do everything: embroider, cook, do painstaking work, draw beautifully, and even create river tables! All that and take care of her family too. She is a very talented woman." |
Joe Dulick (Former USAF): "I'm Just an Average Joe With a Mind That Drifts From Project to Project!"
I'm just your average Joe. Did one hitch in the USAF to learn electronics and fly. Learned electronics. Made a great choice to join an outfit that did nuclear weapons blast monitoring. Got REALLY lucky being chosen for instructor duty in our systems school working with engineers and scientists. That set my career for life. Retired as an Operations Engineer for a medical company making hemodialysis equipment. My OCD mind drifts to many hobbies. Ham radio, pistol shooting, model railroading. Juke Boxes and antique radio refurbishment also keep me occupied. My newest passion is woodworking. I have finally found an outlet for my creative side and enjoy the challenges and problem solving involved in fabricating unique wood art. If you're interested in working with me on a special Wood Crafting Project, I can be contacted at: dulick761@comcast.net Cheers and if you're a Ham, 73 |

Dave Sholes (USAF Ret): "With Everything, The More You Do the Better You Get!"
After 35 years in uniform serving our great country its nice to get lost in creative endeavors. I have 21 years active duty with the USAF and 14 Years with the Air National Guard. I retired from Military Service right here in Tucson AZ, with the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Test Center. I got into woodworking and knife making as a hobby, as with everything, the more you do the better you get. I find it very rewarding to turn a piece of wood or steel into something beautiful and useful. I especially enjoy woodworking with Live Edge pieces, particularity Mesquite. I also enjoy welding. It's an honor to be asked to help out with Post 109 Veterans' Day Fund Raiser. I would enjoy working with you on a Custom Live Edge piece of Furniture, Knife, or Pistol Grips. Thanks David Sholes Custom Creations ddsholes@yahoo.com |
Beetle Bailey (USAF Ret): "Welcome to my Journey!"
I'm retired from the USAF and flew F-4s (the reason I go by "Beetle"). Miss Pam and I have been in our dream home for 8 years which is located in the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains in Southern Arizona. As I learned the craft of wood turning, I began gifting pieces to many of my HS friends and was touched by their kind words of support. This inspiration along with the support of literally Dozens of volunteers, The Mesquite Beetle Charity Auction in February 2020, raised over $13,000 for homeless Veterans' in the Tucson area. If you're interested in other Wood Crafting or Wood Turning Projects, I can be contacted through my websites at: http://www.mesquitebeetle.com/ and http://www.mesquitebeetlemill.com |
